Dr. Alison, along with her husband Dr. Scott, has owned Montpelier Veterinary Hospital since June of 2006. Dr. Alison is a 2002 graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) and did her undergraduate work at Virginia Tech as well. Her interests include wellness care, geriatric medicine and pocket pets. When Dr. Alison is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her two daughters, traveling, reading, and gardening. She lives in Glen Allen, Virginia with Dr. Scott, their two daughters Lily and Hannah and their three dogs Lola, Rudy and Wayne, their blind cat Elphaba (pictured) and their Orange Tabby Ozzie.

His interests include soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, geriatric care and wellness care. Dr. Scott is an avid Virginia Tech Hokie fan, Redskin fan and Capitals fan. Besides watching sports, he enjoys playing golf, traveling, reading, fishing, cooking, playing his guitar, collecting and listening to vinyl records and spending time with his family. He lives in Glen Allen, Virginia with Dr. Alison, their two daughters Lily and Hannah and their three dogs Lola, Rudy and Wayne, their blind cat Elphaba and their Orange Tabby Ozzie.
Dr. Anne Oswald is a 2002 graduate of the veterinary school at Virginia Tech and was a classmate of Dr. Scott and Dr. Alison. Dr Oswald works at Montpelier Veterinary Hospital most Thursdays and fills in when needed when Doctor Scott and Alison are away.
Dr. Matt McKercher spent his childhood years in the Shenandoah Valley in Mint Spring, VA, and his high school years in Newport News, VA. He received a BS in Wildlife Science from Virginia Tech in 1993. Between 1993 and 2000, Dr. McKercher worked as a veterinary assistant at numerous zoos, wildlife facilities, and small animal clinics. He was also the director of Peace River Wildlife Center in Punta Gorda, FL. During this time, he spent thousands of hours working with wildlife, including everything from raptors and primates to giraffes and African elephants.
Dr. McKercher graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, completing his final clinical year at the University of Florida. He spent six years practicing as an equine veterinarian before transitioning to small animal medicine and surgery. He truly enjoys all types of surgeries, especially orthopedics, and has many years of surgical and dental experience with small, large, and wild animals.
He lives in Highland Springs and enjoys spending time with his extended family, including three dogs named Huckleberry, Otter, and Balto and two cats named Gorilla and Marmalade. He is a proud father of two daughters who go to VCU and the University of Idaho. In his spare time, Dr. McKercher enjoys off-roading, drumming, and carpentry. He also loves football and soccer. Commanders, Gators, and Hokies!!!!!
Amanda has been with Montpelier Veterinary Hospital since 2010. She graduated from James Madison University in 2010. She takes good care of and enjoys interacting with our fabulous clientele. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her dogs, Sophie, Lexie, Roxy and Harley.
Kate started at Montpelier Veterinary Hospital in August of 2016. She comes with a lot experience. She most recently was at the Richmond SPCA. She has been a LVT since 2009! She is perfect for our team at MVH! Outside of taking great care of our clients and patients, she spends time with her family, including two children. Not to mention her many pets!
Rae began her journey with Montpelier Veterinary Hospital in July of 2023. She comes with years of experience, including time in emergency veterinary medicine and internal medicine. Rae graduated from Northern Virginia Community College with her LVT in 1998. She lives in Louisa with her husband, two dogs, cat, and sugar glider. In her free time, she loves being on the water, kayaking, hiking, camping, and dancing.
Cynthia has been with Montpelier Veterinary Hospital since 2015. She received her Veterinary Assistant diploma in 2019, and went on to receive her Associates degree in Applied Science for Veterinary Technicians in 2023. Cynthia shares her home with three dogs, Charlie, Red, and Rocket, and one cat, Smokey. You will always find Cynthia with a smile on her face, and she loves helping clients each day!
Haley is one of our full-time receptionists/veterinary assistants. She has been enrolled in veterinary medicine classes in High School and plans to go to Veterinary School in the future. Haley enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors!
Shawna is one of our veterinary assistants. She loves meeting everyone's pets and being able to connect with all of the animals at Montpelier Veterinary Hospital. She plans on going to school soon to become a licensed veterinary technician to expand her knowledge of veterinary medicine. Shawna's free time is usually spent reading, cuddling her cat, Sly, and trying new activities!
Nicole loves all animals - large and small! Nicole graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with two Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees. In Nicole's free time she enjoys baking, crafting, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband and pets!
